Biotricity is a biomass processing CHP power station developer. They have sought and achieved grid connection, planning permission and technology for their initial site in Rhode, Co. Offaly. The plant will generate 50 MWt of energy, of which 15 MW will be converted into electricity and the balance of 35 MW will be used to dry further biomass for further processing into pellets. The power generation is uniquely ‘always on’ and therefore part of Eirgrid’s ‘base load’. This makes the electricity highly sought after.
